about

I am a 25-year-old aspiring artist who breathes passion into contemporary and ballet styles of dance as a performer. My love for performing within those styles of dance stems from my experience with the two types of practices, having obtained professional experience across both ballet and contemporary forms of dance. My main identity resides within dance and performing, as my strengths lie in storytelling, collaboration, character portrayal, stage presence, and technical strength. Work ethic and passion drive this identity to ensure that what I do reaches its true potential. Within my early years of dance training, my love of performing in ballets and being the ‘prima ballerina’ was my focus until I developed a deeper love for performing in contemporary and neo-classical works. This love was focused on my interest in expanding the body through movement and generating movement styles that pushed the body beyond the limits of what the classical ballet structure allowed. Performing contemporary and neo-classical dance also pursued my interest in breaking the stereotypical boundaries that ballet holds. It introduced me to structured improvisation, which became a major development within my skills of finding expansion through the body. I take value from my classical ballet background, as it has given me the tools and work ethic to continue growing in my dance artistry to consistently seek out greater potential for every movement. As a contemporary and neo-classical dance performing artist, I aim to consistently transform and refine my way of moving to achieve the desired outcome for a dance piece and explore new, greater potentials within my movement quality.

ARTIST’s STATEMENT

My dance identity is influenced by my previous experience in classical ballet and my ongoing curiosity in how I can manipulate my body to acquire new felt sensations throughout a performance. I identify myself as a versatile dance performer, as my main strengths as a dance artist reside within my stage presence and artistry onstage. My creative approach takes on the shape of a contemporary and neoclassical ballet performing artist, as my key focus within my dance practice is structured through utilising my technique and movement quality to shapeshift into a desired character or concept.  My vision as an artist is focused on gaining as many opportunities as I can to perform onstage, whether that be as an individual dance artist or a company dancer. My goal after my university degree is to build upon my experience to develop myself as a professional artist who can stand out and gain the opportunity to receive a contract from a contemporary or neoclassical dance company. This vision and goal pursue my desire to consistently perform onstage and accomplish a lifelong dream to be capable of living as a professional dance artist.
